I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to transmit to you, to be laid before Mr. Secretary Chamberlain, a copy of a letter from the General Officer Commanding in China and Hong Kong covering and supporting an application put forward by the Right Rev. the Bishop of Victoria

the annual contribution of 500 dollars paid to the Church

Body of St. John's Cathedral for the use of this Cathedral

by the troops stationed in Hong Kong be increased to £100.

Mr. Brodrick would be glad of an expression of Mr. Chamberlain's views on the expediency of acceding to this request, which, as at present advised, Mr. Brodrick is not

disposed to grant.
